Specialised units to be established in media outlets

AMMAN - Six media outlets in three Arab countries will this year witness the establishment of specialised units for investigative journalism with the aid of regional and international media support organisations.
The Amman-based Arab Reporters for Investigative Journalism (ARIJ) network and the Washington-based International Centre for Journalists (ICFJ) announced on Thursday that they will offer a number of training courses on in-depth reporting skills for journalists in Jordan, Egypt and the Palestinian territories, starting in March.

 
Investigative reporting ‘profitable’, experts say

AMMAN - Media institutions can profit from investing more heavily in investigative reporting, journalism experts said on Sunday.
Nabil Dajani, professor of media at the American University of Beirut, said investing resources in investigative journalism can "save" media outlets at a time when many are facing financial difficulties.

ARIJ Second Regional Conference

AMMAN (JT) - Arab Reporters for Investigative Journalism (ARIJ), a media support network promoting in-depth reporting, on Tuesday released a comprehensive manual for investigative reporters in three languages: Arabic, English and French.

 
Second regional investigative reporting competition opens

The Arab Reporters for Investigative Journalism (ARIJ) network announced this week its second annual investigative reporting competition.

Print and audiovisual media journalists from Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, Egypt, Palestine, Bahrain, Yemen and Iraq can now submit their applications to the Amman-based network for this year's competition, which will, for the first time, include a category for reports on environmental degradation, ARIJ said in a statement released on Tuesday.

Press award winners honoured

AMMAN - JT(29/4/09)Winners of the European Union Press Award for Excellence in Writing were honoured on Tuesday, with Mohammad Fudeilat taking home first prize of 3,000 euros.
Fudeilat’s article, “They left heroes and returned unemployed… the reality of freed prisoners”, tells the stories of Jordanians who were imprisoned in Israel, recounting both their experiences in jail and the socio-economic difficulties they confronted after their release following the peace treaty signed between Jordan and Israel.
